Clark & Howe’s homage to the Joseph Brown House can be seen here in the ogee-gable used on the roofs of the entrance porch and the conservatory on the west elevation; it’s also homage to Edmund Willson’s Taft House (154 Hope Street). Howe’s sure touch with the Colonial Revival elevates this nicely balanced design above the merely competent examples that abound in a state much enamored of this style.
