Architect Thomas Tefft’s Italianate bank block now seems diminutive compared to its later nineteenth century neighbors. Its original, heavily rusticated first story was replaced, after the bank moved out circa 1905, with a plate-glass storefront, and fire escapes now obscure the smooth wall surfaces relieved by bold detail.
