This is Providence’s largest and most elaborate row house. The handful that remain of the very few built do not begin to approach the scale and massing the originally six-unit row. With a high basement, multiple-story bay windows, and elaborate mansard roof, it emulates the appearance of similar buildings that fill block of Boston’s Back Bay, where high-density residential development was necessary. Its similarity to Baker’s own house (354 Broadway) built a year before this suggests that the same builders constructed both Baker’s own house and this income-producing property.
