The oldest industrial-related building in the city and, after Pawtucket’s Slater Mill, the oldest in the state is a modest, three-story brick building. Its small scale and proximity to contemporary houses and churches (First Baptist Church and 118 North Main Street) contrast with the later large scale complexes occupying their own precincts. This is the only remnant of several industrial buildings grouped along Canal Street; Gorham Mfg Co for the most of the nineteenth century occupied the whole block immediately south.
