Like the contemporary Cushing, Sr, House, the Bowen House is one of the earliest remaining houses in Providence with paired interior chimneys, a configuration that betokens the more sophisticated interior spatial arrangement of a center stair hall instead of a massive chimney. Bowen was one of the community’s most influential citizens in the eighteenth century.
