Huygens & Tapé’s Brutalist design is a distinct departure from the even wide range of architectural found in College Hill, Providence, or Rhode Island at large. The compactly massed house is highly site specific, with its principal living spaces on the west side to take in the fine panorama, and its secondary spaces down the hill on the lower level. Somewhat out of place, perhaps, but successfully on its own terms and far more admirable than bad imitations or overly posturing contextualistic houses.
