Providence’s most powerful Greek Revival industrial building housed an iron works, a steamboat-line office, a baking-powder company, and a plumbing-supply house before architect Irving B. Haynes designed and oversaw its conversion into classroom and studio space for the several departments within RISD’s large architectural division. This was the first of many buildings acquired by the school along this street in the late twentieth century.
