In 2012, following the housing crisis and subsequent Great Recession, PPS included Foreclosed Multifamily Housing Stock on the Most Endangered Properties list. The collection of buildings included once-handsome buildings that provided pleasant housing for middle-and-working-class residents. At the time, many of these buildings were abandoned, stripped of plumbing, and boarded up, creating a continuing drag on their neighborhoods’ chances of revitalization.
As of February, 2019, the City has established the Every Home program, meant to put vacant and abandoned houses back into use. While the total number changes, it is below 400 and includes very few historic buildings.
