A big verandah-wrapped, high-shouldered Colonial Revival house with a two-level gambrel roof, this is one of the last of the first generation of colonial-on-steroid-revivalist houses. The way it embraces both the street and its surrounding landscape is remarkable, especially in an era when orientation to the street was more important than such to the garden. Hussey was a jewelry manufacturer, but this is culturally more important as the childhood home of his daughter Ruth (1911-2005), the actress whose early films include The Women and The Philadelphia Story but whose career was largely devoted to the stage.
