The second building on the Brown campus arrived more than fifty years after the first, University Hall (The College Edifice), but closely follows the same format. What distinguishes the two is the shift in style from Georgian there to Federal here. At Hope College we see pressed brick laid up with tight mortar joints to create a smooth wall surface, fanlights over the entrances, a less predominantly projecting center pavilion, and more delicate spindles in the roof balustrade. Like the College Edifice, this housed a variety of uses in its early years, but since its mid-twentieth-century remodeling, it serves as a dormitory.
