Tripp lived here only three years, and his mansard-roof house changed hands fairly frequently during its early years. What we see is probably not what was first built, but the accretions of subsequent owners. The prominent tower, with candlesnuffer roof and paneled chimney, for example, seems not of the same aesthetic as the main block of the house, but more of the early 1880s. This was the first of the large houses that characterize this block of Adelaide Avenue.
