This is the largest, finest, and best preserved of the pre-revolutionary gambrel-roof houses in the city. Its siting, back from the street with open space around it (though more ample now than it was originally, thanks to the mid-twentieth century addition to the property of the lot next door), shows that this was somewhat removed from the “Compact Part of Town” to the south.

UPDATE: New houses were built on the north and east sections of the Jenckes house lot in the mid-2010s.
