These two beefy mansard-roof houses with robust trim typify post-Civil War development. The first, for Comstock, designed by Alfred Stone and setting the tone for large houses on the street, was built for a meat provisioner at a time when much of that business was located nearby in upper South Providence. The Davol House (48 Parkis Avenue), an L-plan variation on the same theme but with simpler detail designed by Charles P. Hartshorn, was the home for many years of the founder of Davol Rubber Co, located not too far away at the intersection of Point and Eddy Streets.
