Joseph Brown’s South Main Street house became an icon to local architects working in the Colonial Revival style during the early twentieth century. For the local gas company’s headquarters, architects Clarke & Howe gave clients a taste of Old Providence, though here it has been magnified many times and applied to a modern steel-frame building.
