The architect for this Federal Revival house, who studied at McGill University in Toronto & then in France, paid great attention to detailing, as beautifully evident here, both inside and out. On the outside, the entrance porch is particularly well handled, with sidelights and a semi-elliptical fanlight set within a Composite-order porch with elaborately turned balusters and urn finials. Above the entrance porch is a handsome Palladian window set within a semi-elliptical relieving arch with fan-pattern spandrel infill. Inside, the detailing is especially rich; staircase design was one of his favorite challenges, and this one illustrates the suavity of his abilities. Mr Gilman was vice president of Coated Textile Mills, Inc.
