This large, refreshing open space in the middle of College Hill is framed on the west by the university’s earliest buildings, on the north by Faunce House, and on the east by a late nineteenth-century row of buildings along the alignment of Brown Street, before it was closed in the late nineteenth century. This elm-canopied heart of the Brown campus life – from the most casual, informal encounters to the country’s most highly ritualized university-commencement events.
