If you’re following Tour 2-South, turn the corner to find another ensemble, slightly larger and more architectural ambitious than that on lower Thayer. Virtually every house here deserves the visitor’s attention, but because of the abundance of high quality only those with remarkable characteristics (23 Arnold Street and 27-29 Arnold Street) are singled out for discussion. Such exclusion, however, only points up the overall high level of architectural and historical importance of so many buildings in a city of Providence’s size, a strength that can perhaps excuse the elimination of a fine example of late eighteenth-century domestic architecture because it’s only “highly representative.”
