John Holden Greene’s signature monitor-on-hip-roof Federal Burrough House (6 Cooke Street), the first on the street, originally sat amid large open fields. The Zechariah Chafee House, moved from a position nearer Power Street to the south and reoriented to Cooke Street and extensively remodeled at least three times, is an architectural pastiche; the exterior comes closer to its appearance after the 1872 move and remodeling. The Queen Anne-style Moroney House (2 Cooke Street), with picturesque, elaborating massing, is nicely sited on this corner lot, and its design makes a good visual response to its site.
