Strung along the crest of College Hill, the houses featured include two then-remote early houses as well as defining examples of Providence’s first-rate mid and late 19th century domestic architectural heritage. Providence strongly embraced the Greek Revival and the Italianate, and houses featured on this tour amply demonstrate the vigor of that affection. Turn-of-the-20th-century revival styles are also well represented here. Two relative newcomers illustrate the strength of Providence’s architectural heritage as inspiration for late 20th-century design. This tour encapsulates the wealth of Providence’s outstanding architectural-design tradition.
